Where do I usually start when working with people with disabilities?

Where do I start when working with people with disabilities (especially Cerebral Palsy).  This question has come up so many times this month.  So in brief I thought I would tell you where I would usually start.  Please note this is only my opinion and that I don't advise anyone stopping therapy or seize taking their medication.  I do advise that any self-help EFT with people with special needs must be done with consent and knowledge of medical/health professional.

It has been an absolutely amazing month of August.  So many things happened that it actually feels as if a 120 days have been compressed into 31 day.  How is that for a ZIP Folders?  I have witnessed so many positive shifts in my clients.  This month the focus was helping children or adults with special needs using EFT.  Although that was the focus, everyone in need of EFT was welcome to come for a session without any costs involved.

In the past month the working of the brain and the process of development has once again been highlighted.  Seeing that it is called a process of development, I know procedures can change to facilitate efficiency.  The protocols and programming of the whole physiological system in individuals have also been reiterated in the sessions.  Although there are many different procedures and processes and countless differences in individuals,  the process I started to use and feels comfortable with is very simple.

Where I like to start, when working with people with disabilities (especially with Cerebral Palsy), is focussing on the Proprioceptors.  Activation/ stimulation of proprioceptors will improve communication with the brain.  Proprioceptors is a specialized nerve ending that monitors internal changes in the body brought about by movement and muscular activity.  It is located in muscles and tendons and transmit information that is used to coordinate muscular activity.  An Easier explanation can be, it tells the brain where the body and body parts are.

To help the brain finding the body, you can start at the feet pulling gently on each joint.  This is a timeously process and must be done slowly and gently, especially if seizures are present.  Until an equilibrium or balance is establish the seizures might increase again.  To speed up the process EFT can be done on proprioceptors and not knowing how to translate the message received from the brain, the muscles or the tendons.  I use the following diagram on the right to guide the process of EFT. I usually start at the feet, then ankles, knees, hip, trunk, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, little finger, ring finger, middle finger, index finger and thumb. Then follows the neck, brow, Eyelid and eyeball, face, mouth, tongue.  Remember to set an clear intention.  If this process sounds like a tedious task you can do EFT on general proprioceptors, but I found that using EFT on Symptoms being specific works the best.

The other way of using EFT is to focus on the emotional trauma.   It can be most beneficial using EFT on not understanding what is happening, or struggling to express or communicate. Sometimes when this emotional trauma is cleared many wonderful things start to happen.  When working with people with disabilities it is of the upmost importance to listen to you intuition as well.  Sometimes the block or trauma isn't complex at all and it can be cleared in a jiffy (haven't used that word in a long time).

Remember the human body is a miracle so please don't let your judgment or opinion inhibit recovery.  The next step will be to focus on balance but more of that later.

Sending lots of love

Surrogate Tapping

I have been blessed with the assistance and guidance of Gary Craig (founder of EFT) again today.  The topic of this evenings Skype call was Jamie and surrogate EFT.  He guided me through a few tapping sequences and our focus for this week will be Jamie's neck and neck muscles.  My heart's desire for him is to have full control and functionality of his neck muscles.  After a very thorough tutoring and video recording we have decided to do surrogate tapping everyday for the whole week.

The reason we are focussing on surrogate tapping is because me and my family have moved 1500 km away from Cape Town recently.  I am very excited and of course very nervous to see what wonders this will bring.  Gary and I will reconvene in a week's time to see what effect it will have on him (Jamie).  In the meantime minor and major changes will have to be monitored by those closest to him.

Sending everyone Love and Light!! xxx
